  • Safe and sound in Thailand

I am sitting here in "Buddy's Internet" in Chiang Mai, Thailand as we speak, enjoying the warm weather and in just a little pain from my new sunburn.  Susanna, Erika and I arrived safely in Bangkok on Monday night, stayed the night in a real fun guest home that night, then spent the next day wandering around Bangkok and getting tickets  That night we loaded up on a bus for our 15+ hour bus ride down to Krabi.  Since the bus made repeated 40 minute "breaks" we missed the early ferry to the island, so we had to wait until 3 pm to take a ferry to Phi Phi island.  Upon arriving, we realized there were no open housing except in the 2nd floor of a Thai massage place. We spent the night there for our cheap 200 baht a person fee and the next morning went on a search for more hospitable accomodations.  We got a cheap, but nice room at Don Chukit's Resort and headed to Long Island beach.  The first time we ran into the water made those 24 hours traveling and the last 2 days worth it.  It was beautiful water  and all around and so refreshing.  We spent the next few days there and came back to Bangkok last night (via the cheap, slightly strange airline (1 2 Go Airlines) though much better alternative to the bus.  Since we got in late that night and left early that morning, we decided to save money and sleep at the airport.  So 12 hours later in baggage claims, we headed off to check in.  We made it safely to Chiang Mai this afternoon, got our rooms and some food, took the much needed showers and have been welcoming in all of our friends we met in training in August back in Beijing.  It has been a fun and adventure filled week-more than can even fit in this post.  I will share more stories in person if you ask next summer!  I start my Masters classes tomorrow at 8 AM so you can be remembering me in that as we havent slept much this last week.
